Economic Adviser of Saudi Arabia Kingdom Gives a General Lecture at IPB

Economic Adviser Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Saleh Ali Alwaji delivered a general lecture to the students of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in GMSK Auditorium, Darmaga Campus, Bogor (13/3). Dr. Saleh, who is also a former Director General of Zakat, Income Taxes in the Ministry of Saudi Arabia ,was officially welcomed by Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto. Rector took the opportunity to show a range of IPB's innovative works which have been included as the most prospective innovation by the Business Innovation Center, Ministry of of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) RI.

In front of the students, Dr. Saleh delivered his lecture on the topic "The Role of Zakat in Reducing Poverty Case of Saudi Arabia". He said that zakat is important primarily for a Muslim. In the management of zakat it is determined how to glorify mustahik or zakat recipients. He said, mustahik in Saudi Arabia do not need to queue. Dr Saleh told that in Saudi Arabia zakat is divided into two: direct zakat, i.e in in the form of agricultural zakat, distributed directly to communites, and indirect zakat in the form of livestock zakat.

People have to sell livestock first if they want to deliver the zakat. This zakat is to be paid and the state controls it through the existing mechanism and system. As for Zakat for the disables, the Saudi government set up a special vehicle and its distribution is organized by the Ministry of Social Security. A lecturer of FEM IPB, Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik expressed his hope that after this visit there will be cooperation as in Saudi Arabia there are also colleges that focus on agricultural development.
